Progression OVER Perfection

Progression OVER Perfection

Hey Yall, its been a minute, but I am eager to share with you all my progression since the New Year. If you read my most recent blog Hello 2016, you’ll remember I made long list of New Year’s Resolutions (Goals), here’s an update:

I won’t go through every bullet point, but I’d like to highlight a few highs and lows. Normally I’d start off with my lows but today I’ll start with the HIGHS.

Craft More.

Since the New Year, I’ve made the initiative to cut back on my spending, and by doing so I’ve been practicing to Craft More in the kitchen. I am proud to say that I’ve been eating out less, practicing more on the few dishes I know, as well as trying new things.

Keep My Eyebrows On Fleek.

I know to some this may sound foolish, but every woman knows how simply cleaning up your eyebrows can change your entire look. You could be having a bad hair day but if your eyebrows look neat, you can still wear your glow.

Travel More.

Fortunately, I had the amazing opportunity to travel to San Juan, Puerto Rico this past March. This trip was my graduation gift to myself. I saved up money from my graduation gifts, put money aside from my paychecks, and funded my way to a great time. I was able to enjoy four days of vacation, adventure, dancing, and good laughs with four beautiful young women.

Join a Fitness Group/Work Out More.

This is my greatest accomplishment of all, working towards my personal fitness. I started off dedicated but lost. I would go to the gym ready, but after 20 minutes ask myself “Okay what next”? Weekly I am learning more and more from what areas of my body need the most working, to clean eating, to which equipment to use in the gym, etc. A huge contribution to my fitness journey would be obtaining membership at the YouFit Gym, when you pay for membership out of pocket it motivates you to get your money’s worth. In addition to Gym membership, attending my dear friend/mentor Killer Body Fitness Dance Classes. Anyone who knows me knows I LOVE to dance, so when I’m there I’m having so much fun dancing I tend to forget I’m working out…at least till I start feeling sore.

Now over to these LOWS..Meep.

Reading is fundamental. Knowledge is power. Knowing these things, why can’t I pick up a book and read? Too easily distracted, and haven’t taken the simple step of actually picking up a book. On a brighter side I have found myself reading a lot more blogs and short articles online during my free time at work. Remember: Progress Over Perfection.

Work On My Mouth.

Man oh man this has been tough, simply because I don’t care. In order to correct a problem you must identify it as a problem. This is why it is very important to never get complacent in sin, settling for less, and/or not putting forth your best efforts. In effort to work on my mouth, this week I’ve started back creating tallies on my wrist anytime I catch myself cursing or using derogatory terms. At the end of each day I have to do push-ups for each tally. Remember: Progress Over Perfection.

Re-Dedicate My Life to Christ.

Although the dedication is there mentally-spiritually, I have to work on taking more action and having more faith. In this area of my life I may be over exaggerating it as a low, but I have a higher standard for myself when it comes to my spirituality. There are some things tangible and intangible that I must simply let go. But again on the brighter side I have been practicing prayer and fasting to help get myself together in the long run. Remember: Progress over Perfection

Last but definitely not least,

Blog More.

I have a problem. When it comes to writing I am a perfectionist. I have been working on one blog for over 3 month. [I actually began this blog March 17th…] Part of the problem is I’ve been without a laptop for over a year. I know, that’s crazy.  So unless I push myself to go to the library or bug a friend to use their laptop nothing gets done. But once I get past moving into my new place I’ll make the investment of purchasing my own laptop. On the bright-side I have written a blog on Power Circle  this past March entitled “My Personal Fitness Journey”, and I’m currently working on a few more, so stay tuned, and walk this journey of PROGRESS with me!

Again, Remember: Progress Over Perfection.

Many things won’t happen overnight, but if you continuously set goals, realistic goals, and remain dedicated you will progress overtime. Below I’d like to share with you 4 ways to purse PROGRESS in reaching your personal goals:

If you are not progressing towards your goals, maybe it’s because you need change. Change can be anything from your diet, environment, circle of friends, spending habits, the amount of time you spend on social media/watching television or even the brand of seasoning you use for those of you working on your cooking skills. “One reason people resist Change is because they focus on what they have to give up instead of what they have to gain.”- Rick Goodwin

Believe You Can.

One thing I’ve quickly recognized is that you must have a positive mindset when reaching towards progress. If you wake up with a defeated mindset, or worrying so much that it cannot be done, then it won’t get done. For a while I worried so much about reaching my goals that I found myself doubting my abilities to succeed. I had to pray for God to help me to have a more positive mindset and to believe in myself just as much as those around me. “Progress is impossible without change, and those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything.” – George B. Shaw

Find an Accountability Partner.

This is actually one of my greatest accomplishments thus far this year; creating accountability partners. Your accountability partner could be a friend, co-worker, classmate, or a family member. Your accountability partners job is simply to hold you accountable to your goals and remind you to get things done. Finding someone with the same goals as you or that have already surpass reaching your current goal would allow the partnership to be more beneficial. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” – Proverbs 27:17

Reward Yourself.

Once you’ve successfully achieved your goal(s) reward yourself, you deserve it! Often times we overcome one challenge to the next but never allow ourselves the time to just breathe and appreciate the hard work accomplished at hand. Other times we meet our goals and wait for others to honor us for it, noooo, don’t do that. Sometimes I reward myself by getting my nails done, others I reward myself by simply laying down. Do whatever works for you! “The biggest reward for a thing well done is simply to have done it.”- Unknown

With that being said get up and get something done!!
